Every dabber knows the importance of maintaining a clean quartz and rig. A clean bowl ensures a delicious dab, but did you know it can lengthen the life of your quartz bowl up to fifty percent? The daily dabber knows how big of an inconvenience it can be when the previous dabber did not swab their remaining oil from the bowl. If left to cool too long the remaining residue will literally bond itself to the glass. Once it has reached this terrible condition more aggressive methods must be implemented to remove it. More elbow grease is required with cold hardened oil residue.

Two of the most popular methods are rubbing alcohol or torching it. Rubbing alcohol combined with table salt works pretty well, but can be a lengthy messy process. Placing your quartz and the alcohol in a plastic baggie tends to work well and allows you to move the contents. This ensures that you can fully submerge the whole bowl using less rubbing alcohol. You can also swish the contents around assisting the oil to break up easier. Torching is using your torch lighter to burn the excess oil from the bowl. Depending on the amount of oil left in the bowl you may end up going through a substantial amount of butane using this method. Torching it can also create burnt smelling fumes, however they dissipate fairly quickly. It is also good to note that continuous extreme heat dramatically shortens the life of the quartz.

Cotton swabs have been a very popular solution over the years, but they have been very difficult to keep clean and organized when working around concentrates.  You can use cotton swabs soaked in alcohol, but these too tend to be most effective on recently dabbed oil.

Have you ever tried pulling one q-tip out of the whole bunch? Odds are you will rarely snag the swab you desire without a few of its friends deciding to sneak and fall out. Not to mention dabbers require a more durable alternative to the basic paper cotton swab. Every dabber at one point or another has dropped a few cotton swabs where concentrates had previously spilled? The cotton tends to stick to room temperature/cold oil making a heck of a mess. However, cotton swabs do very well with warm and hot oil. Best when used immediately following a dab.
